Plaid
A bank-account-connectivity API that lets applications verify ownership and access transaction history via consumer login.
Plaid is the dominant U.S. bank-account-linking API. Applications embed Plaid Link, the user logs into their bank, and Plaid returns account ownership, balances, and transaction history. Plaid is used by Stripe, Wise, Robinhood, Venmo, and most U.S. fintechs for ACH-payment account linking, mortgage underwriting, and balance verification. Plaid does not work for many non-U.S. banks, which is one reason non-residents struggle to fund Stripe accounts directly from foreign accounts.
